Beliefs That Control Our Behavior

Ever wonder why you continue to do the things that you say over and over again you will never do again?  Ever wonder why you don’t do the things that  you tell yourself over and over again that you are going to do?  I’m pretty convinced that I’m not the only one who experiences this.  So if I know that something in my life needs changing, and I even know how to change it, what is it that keeps me from following through on my goal to change it?  It’s not a lack of will power.  I have plenty of will power.  I just don’t always exercise it.  And why is that? ...

I’m Back!!!!!

Yes, miracles really do happen!  I’m back!!   In the two years I’ve been absent, there were very few days that I did not tell myself to get back to blogging.  Well, today I listened, and here I am.   While my previous blogs were focused on turning my thoughts into articles, I’ve decided to diversify; maybe one day an article, another day maybe just a few words about whatever I’m thinking or doing at the time.  If I’m not confined to writing complete articles, I’ll be inclined to write more regularly.   I’m still a hypnotherapist, I still...

Paralysis of Analysis

I am a Virgo, so an astrologer would say that my tendency toward analyzing anything (or everything) comes quite naturally.  My ego, of course, thinks that this is a wonderful trait, that the pursuit of knowledge is very lofty, indeed, and that it shows how intelligent I am. Well, my ego got quite a come-uppance the other night while I was talking with a friend.  All day I had been mulling over what I would charge for the hypnotherapy courses I am offering online.  I brought this up to my friend, and then proceeded to give a questioning dissertation on “why” would this be a good price,...

Going to the Core

In my last blog I promised to write about core beliefs – what they are and where they come from. Core beliefs are those beliefs that are buried within the subconscious mind influencing us, motivating us, and even driving us to respond to life in ways that reinforce these core beliefs. This would be great if the core beliefs were all positive. However, the majority of these core beliefs were formed when we were little children, without an understanding of the situations that caused these beliefs. When we were born, we had not yet formed the critical factor, the part of our conscious mind that...

The Big Dig

I thought it was high time that I got back to blogging since I’ve taken off now for 3 months. Note to self:  Schedule time for more frequent blogs. So here I sit, wondering what to write.  It is usually quite peaceful with my window open and the sound of nature drifting in.  On this day, however, I hear the sounds of BIG equipment moving dirt back into the trenches that had been dug in order to replace the water pipes.  The sound of the machinery is distracting enough, but the beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep when they back up is downright irritating!  So how can I turn this into something...

Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places

We are programmed to seek love in a way that all-too-often results in disaster!!! We hold an image of our ideal mate within our subconscious mind, and when we meet someone who matches this image, we are convinced that we’ve finally met our soul mate.  We tend to ignore all those red flags that warn us of the rocky roads ahead.  You know, those red flags that others may tell us about, but we convince ourselves they are just jealous and don’t want us to be happy? You see, the ideal image isn’t so ideal from our conscious mind’s perspective.  It’s only the subconscious...

Shame on You for Shaming Us

I particularly wanted to talk about hypnosis today, but didn’t have a clear idea of just what I wanted to say about it.  So I got out the OH Cards again to see where they might take me, and how I can relate it to hypnosis.  (Note the picture to this blog which shows the word card - Shame - framing  the picture card.) Let’s see where this goes. As I look at the picture, it appears to be two people looking out the front window of a car.  There is a Yield sign ahead, clearly a road veering off to the right, a not-so-clear road ahead, and a rear view mirror with nothing reflected. ...

Victim or Vulnerable?

I am new to this blogging business, so the first three blogs were actually articles I had written for local magazines and a newspaper.  So now it’s time to post another blog, and all I can do is ask myself, “Now what?” Well, I am fortunate enough to have a wise friend who knows that I often use OH Cards as a means of accessing the subconscious mind in order to work through problematic issues.  She encouraged me to use these cards as inspiration for my blogs.  I am following up on her suggestion with this blog. These OH Cards consist of two decks of 88 cards each.  One...

Body Follows Mind

The body is a robot. It does what the mind tells it to do. Imagine a large yellow lemon, one that is very heavy for its size because it is very, very juicy. It is so full of juice that once the skin is broken, juice will come pouring out over the sides of the lemon. The juice of this lemon is extremely sour. Just imagine the lemon sliced in half, with the juice dripping over the sides. You might even want to imagine testing the sourness of this lemon by bringing it up to your mouth, and sinking your teeth down into the pulp of the lemon, bringing the sour juice into your mouth and allowing it to...

Inside Job

Peace of Mind is an Inside Job. This phrase appears on all letterhead, brochures, and flyers that are sent out from Hypnotherapy One. It is a phrase that describes what has occurred in hypnotherapy when people have accessed their great inner wisdom; an inner wisdom we all possess, yet all too often lose sight of in our process of coping and surviving in our material world. Our “outer” world seems to correspond to the process of our “inner” world.  One example of an “inside job” that occurs in hypnotherapy is discovering and releasing old tapes (belief systems)...
